PEACING TOGETHER HISTORY
|
This week as a nation we mark the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, where on this date in 1941 more than 350 Japanese planes mounted a vicious, surprise attack on the US, crippling her Pacific fleet. While December 7th is a day to remember the brave heroism of the men and women who subsequently fought a global war to save the world from tyranny, let us also pause to reflect on the strong bonds of peace that now tie the US to Japan and Germany. It is the existence of this improbable peace among former bitter enemies that should inspire us to dare to believe that peace is possible in our own generation.
