EVERYONE is abuzz about the Lake Champlain Quadricentennial, the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain's discovery of the lake that bears his name and that is bordered by both Canada and the US. Barre, Vermont, became the destination for thousands of French-Canadians as they moved their way southward seeking good jobs in Barre's burgeoning granite quarries and factories (sheds).
Barre's French-Canadian population forever enriched the existing Barre culture. Barre's French-Canadians actively practice their traditions, as evidenced by the Canadian Club and the popularity in Barre of traditional French-Canadian folk songs and cuisine.
Come visit Rock of Ages to discover how the French and French-Canadian cultures enriched our lives and learn about the important contributions made to our granite industry by these industrious folk from up North.
